Community hearing on public mental health service expansion

In January, the Chicago City Council approved the Public Mental Health Service Expansion Resolution that created a task force to make recommendations for re-opening clinics and improving existing services.

No matter where you work, if you're a resident of Chicago who cares about the plight of individuals with mental illness, please come out to an upcoming public hearing on Thursday, June 13 to show your support for expanding mental health services.

In 2012 the City of Chicago closed six mental health clinics and subsequently privatized another. Chicago city mental health clinics were the safety net provider for thousands of residents in need, many of whom were left without affordable, accessible options following the closures. Working together with a coalition of community organization, AFSCME helped lead the fight to reopen public mental health clinics.
