Illinois Senate passes fair tax

On May 1, the Illinois Senate voted 40-19 to pass the fair tax constitutional amendment. The measure now goes to the House where a three-fifths majority is needed to put the fair tax amendment on the ballot. 

Under the fair tax plan, 97% of taxpayers will get a tax cut, while the rich—those making more than $250,000 a year—will finally begin to pay their fair share. This will raise more than $3 billion a year to fund schools, public services, infrastructure and pay the state’s bills.
